North Country Opera Productions formalizes its charitable mission

All profits derived from Jay's work are now donated to the non-profit organization, North Country Opera Productions.

North Country Opera Productions was originally created to produce the 2022 tour of Jay's most popular musical play. In 2025, it was awarded 501(c)(3) status as a charitable organization. It supports Michigan-based conservation, performing arts, and humanitarian causes with funds raised through the production and distribution of the works of Jay Stielstra.

North Country Opera is a grassroots, volunteer-run organization, whose flagship project is the distribution of North Country Opera: Live at the Ark, a theater-quality film of Jay's most popular folk musical, recorded during the 2022 Michigan tour of the play. In the first two years following its release, the recording generated more than $6500 to distribute to charitable organizations.

North Country Opera, Jay’s most popular musical play, played to sold-out crowds in a a 2022 tour of northern Michigan, attracting a new generation of fans to this 40-year old classic.

The final performance of the tour was recorded at The Ark in Ann Arbor, and is now available on DVD or to stream for all that were unable to see it live.
